Wildlife - to preserve our wildlife in it's natural environment. It is important that even the Predators are accepted and not poisoned or shot. They are also part of Namibia's nature!
Plastic Pollution
We chose Plastic Pollution as our first Project for Positive Change. You cannot turn on the Television or listen to the Radio without being bombarded with stories on Plastic and its devastating effects on our world. It is time we played our part.
Not only does plastic litter our beautiful country but it also creates a real risk to our farm animals, wildlife and marine life.
Countless countries across the globe have introduced either a complete ban or monetary levies on plastic bags to reduce the negative impact on our planet.
Here are just some of the reasons why we thought it important to Namibia
Our Oceans are filling up with plastic materials which do not naturally biodegrade and the marine life is literally choking to death by our unnecessary wastefulness. Imagine a plastic bag floating on the sea, the sunlight will eventually break this down into small particles which sink below the surface and fish will mistakenly eat this as they believe it is food. Now imagine you catch one of these fish to eat, that fish has been fed on and nourished by plastic! So you are now inadvertently eating plastic yourself. Pieces of Micro Plastic have been found in Mussels and Oysters. One day we will find Plastic particles in our drinking water!
Our Eco System is being destroyed by pollution at an alarming rate, many species are on the verge of extinction. Some may not care for this but they will care when food becomes extremely hard to come by.
Plastic is often strewn on the land. All too frequently you will see "Namibian Daisies" flapping in the breeze as they are caught on a plant which will eventually (due to the kite effect) get ripped out of the ground and die. Many of these plants are essential foods for our animals. We already have a problem with grazing due to long-term drought.
Why should wildlife be important? In 2016 nearly 1.4 million tourists came to Namibia. They have come to experience the beautiful landscape and variety of game we have to offer. If the wildlife numbers shrink due to no food or ingesting plastic as food so will the number of Tourists. Tourism is a massive source of income to the Country providing a huge amount of employment. If the Tourists only see litter and no wildlife do you think they will stay, come back again or recommend the country to others??
